We had plans to go into St. John’s this weekend, but our work (and, our desire to spend a warm weekend at home) kept us back. Thankfully. Nothing like a sunset in Whiteway to soothe the senses, relax, and provide all the energy we need as we head to the holidays.
We’ll be at the Carboner Mall today from 12-5pm if you’re interested in a gift certificate for The Doctor’s House for your loved ones. Happy Sunday.Read More
This beautiful shot from Bud Vincent reminds us that winter is here in Newfoundland, and Christmas is just a few weeks away – hard to believe. As always, Bud can make even a cold day look inviting. Remember that all his images are for sale, should you be interested.
Also remember that we’ve got fine dining lined up for tonight at The Doctor’s House – a choice between Mustard and Panko Coated Baked Tilapia or Braised Lamb Shanks with Newfoundland Berry Wine (you’re going to make me choose???). Reservations are required – for more info, please see here.Read More
If you’re in the St. John’s area, we highly recommend that you enjoy a visit to the Christina Parker Gallery, which from today until Dec. 31 will be celebrating recent work by their Gallery artists. Of course, Newfoundland treasure and good friend Clifford George is one such artist, and as you can see below, he’s in good company. The opening reception is tonight from 5:30-8pm. We’ve been to other exhibitions here and loved it, and it’s always fun to get out in the community to support local artists.Read More
I hated winter til moving here to the Wonderful World of Whiteway. A light dusting here by the ocean adds unspeakable charm. Now, maybe after a rough winter or a few snowstorms in I’ll feel differently, but The Berry and I spent this past weekend cozied up in one of our Heart’s Delight cottages, and it was heartwarming and so re-energizing. We went on a hike with the goldens, watched Christmas movies, drank hot chocolate, and didn’t talk about work once. Good for the soul. Now I can’t wait for Christmas!Read More
This past weekend marked a first for us – we hosted our first holiday Christmas party at the Shag It. We’re happy that everyone enjoyed themselves – the place was beautifully decorated, the food was fantastic, the music was excellent, and everyone had a wonderful time! Big thanks to Joe Friday and our wonderful staff for making the night a success.
It was a holiday party for Cram’s Home Hardware, a special, local place, established in 1884 (!) and now operated by the 4th generation of Cram’s. As you’ll see from their website, they offer groceries, dry goods, building supplies, flooring, furniture and appliances, and they offer home repairs and construction services, too. They come highly recommended!
Next weekend we’ll be hosting another party for Airco, another local great company. If you’re looking for somewhere for your next function or holiday party, remember that we accommodate groups of up to 40, with lots of great options. Please call Joe at 588-4649 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more.Read More
Days like we had this weekend, I like to count my four-legged blessings. Friday and I took Jerry and The Berry on a nice long hike in the freshly fallen snow and beautiful winter sunshine. Then we all relaxed with Christmas music and Christmas movies at our cottages in Long Point Cove. I can see why our BOGO offer is booking up quickly – what a wonderful way to create some special memories with your loved ones during the holiday season.
Thankfully, even since Friday’s been welcomed into the Ocean Delight family, our circle of loved ones continues to grow. It is so much fun to finally have another four-legged as we bound the trails! (And remember, if you’re interested in the BOGO yourself, you only have til tomorrow to make your reservation!).Read More
One of our favourite new endeavors lately has been dinner at The Doctor’s House, exquisitely prepared by our new chef, Anna, who was previously responsible for Tea Room at the Garden at MUN Botanical Gardens. This was a retirement dinner for some RBC ladies, where we served Cornish hen and apricot glazed salmon, which was all a big hit Please follow us on Facebook if you’re interested in hearing next weekend’s menu!Read More
When we first started this blog, I’d often share pictures of local churches on Sundays. I don’t think I ever featured this one, and thankfully Leonard Howlett took these great shots on a trip out here (and got much better pictures than I would have!). It’s of the lovely United Church in lovely Cavendish.Read More
Tomorrow is December 1st, so I ask the question – how soon is too soon to start getting into Christmas blogging? When I have this great shot from Bud Vincent, I say, it’s never too early!
Remember, we’ve another great, 3 course meal lined up at 7pm tonight at The Doctor’s House. We hope you join us, there.
We recently introduced a special Buy One Night, Get One Night Free offer for the holiday season, and we’ve gotten a good response – and to me, this picture captures why. We’re so blessed in this province to never be too far a drive from the ocean and beautiful vistas. But when the ocean is literally right off your back deck, something magical happens, and it’s totally engrossing and relaxing. I can see why people like the thought of getting away from the holiday hustle for a few nights!Read More
